Back to School Skin Care

Dealing with acne during the school year is about as popular as a pop quiz in algebra. With some extra homework and a little tutoring, every mom or dad can help their teenage scholar prevent breakouts and control redness. It's as easy as e = mc2!

The first step is to cleanse. Splash warm water on the face to open pores and allow the cleanser to deeply penetrate the skin. Use an oil-free wash that contains salicylic acid helps prevent clogging of pores.

Next, tone. Many teens overlook this step because they're so focused on eliminating acne. Toning removes cleanser and water residue and prepares skin for the final step of the regimen.

And finally, moisturize. Moisturizers help prevent acne by keeping skin hydrated, which means the sebaceous glands don’t have to work overtime to produce natural oils. By preventing overproduction of excess oils, moisturizing can be one of the best ways to fight acne.
